Kingman: History


Centuries before Kingman became a bustling city and Kingman, Arizona homes for sale would be considered a good investment option, the land was the territory of nomadic Native Americans, particularly the Hualapai, Havasupai and Mohave tribes. Spaniards searching for gold explored the area as early as the 1500's and were followed by Anglo explorers in the early 1800's.


In the early 1880's, a land surveyor named Lewis Kingman headed a railroad route between New Mexico and California, passing through Arizona's Mohave County. A town settlement was built along the tracks and was named Kingman in 1882. After businesses were set up and the area flourished, Kingman was declared the county seat of Mohave County in 1887.


An Army Air Base was set up in the city of Kingman during World War II. After the war, Kingman turned increasingly to the tourist market. Historic Route 66 paralleled the railroad route, leading millions of people westward to California throughout the early 20th Century. The travelers brought prosperity to Kingman, which flourished as a trade and transportation center and Route 66 became one of Kingman's defining features.


Today, aside from being a tourist and vacation destination, Kingman has also become an economic hub. Kingman, Arizona real estate is among the most desirable in the region today. Many of the city's visitors have decided to settle down in the area with no regrets.
